ISLAMABAD: The Senate of COMSATS University Islamabad approved a series of academic, administrative and institutional reforms during its 9th meeting in Islamabad, with discussions focusing on Open and Distance Learning programmes, university governance and employee welfare measures.
The meeting, held at the university’s Park Road campus, was chaired by Khalid Hussain Magsi, Federal Minister for Science and Technology and Pro-Chancellor-I of the university, on behalf of the President of Pakistan.
Officials said the Senate reviewed policy measures aimed at strengthening academic systems, improving institutional management and expanding skill-based education opportunities through modern learning programmes.
One of the key areas discussed during the session was the introduction of Open and Distance Learning initiatives designed to improve educational access and support professional skill development.
Senate discusses appointments, promotions and governance reforms
The Senate also reviewed a range of administrative and governance matters, including institutional reforms and proposals related to electronic voting within statutory bodies.
Recommendations regarding appointments and promotions of campus directors, senior university officials, faculty members and non-faculty employees were approved during the meeting.
Members also discussed employee welfare initiatives, scholarship regulations and revisions in daily wage rates affecting university staff.
Approval was granted for the affiliation of additional institutions under the COMSATS University framework as part of the university’s expansion efforts.
Focus on institutional development and transparency
During the session, Khalid Hussain Magsi stressed the importance of strengthening Senate sub-committees and enhancing coordination through statutory forums to improve institutional oversight and governance.
Officials said the meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to academic excellence, transparency and long-term institutional development in Pakistan’s higher education sector.
