The Commander of the Azerbaijan Naval Forces, Rear Admiral Shahin Mammadov, met Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf at Naval Headquarters in Islamabad on February 3, 2026, as both sides discussed regional maritime security and avenues to deepen defence cooperation.
The visit, aimed at strengthening bilateral naval ties, underscored ongoing efforts by Pakistan and Azerbaijan to expand collaboration in training, defence engagement, and maritime security at a time of evolving regional dynamics.

Upon arrival, Rear Admiral Mammadov was received by Admiral Naveed Ashraf and was presented a guard of honour by a Pakistan Navy contingent. He later laid a floral wreath at the Shuhada’s Monument and was introduced to principal staff officers at Naval Headquarters.
During formal talks, the visiting commander and the Pakistan Navy chief reviewed matters of mutual interest, the regional maritime security situation, and opportunities to enhance cooperation between the two navies. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to broadening the scope of the existing bilateral defence relationship.
The Azerbaijani naval commander was also briefed on Pakistan Navy’s ongoing and future projects, according to a statement issued by the Directorate General Public Relations (Navy).
Pakistan and Azerbaijan maintain long-standing brotherly relations, including close naval cooperation. Officials said the Commander Azerbaijan Naval Forces visit Pakistan is expected to further strengthen collaboration between the two countries, particularly in the maritime domain.
