Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), HJ, visited Peshawar today as part of ongoing efforts to assess the security situation and strengthen engagement with local communities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Interactive Session with Tribal Elders
During the visit, the COAS held an interactive session with a Jirga of tribal elders, reaffirming the military’s commitment to peace and stability along the Pak-Afghan border. He was later briefed at Headquarters 11 Corps on the prevailing security environment, operational preparedness, and counterterrorism initiatives in the region.
Tribute to Tribal Support and Sacrifice
Addressing the Jirga, Field Marshal Munir lauded the unwavering support of tribal communities during the recent standoff between Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban. He paid tribute to the resilience and sacrifices of the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the fight against terrorism, acknowledging their role as vital partners in national security.
Tribal Elders Reaffirm Support
The tribal elders reiterated their full support for the Armed Forces in combating terrorism and expressed solidarity against extremist elements operating from across the border. They emphasized that the ideology of groups like Fitna Al Khwarij (FAK) holds no acceptance among the tribes of KPK.
COAS Highlights Pakistan’s Peaceful Intentions
The COAS underscored Pakistan’s desire for peaceful relations with all neighboring countries, including Afghanistan. However, he made it clear that cross-border terrorism originating from Afghan soil would not be tolerated. He noted that despite Pakistan’s diplomatic and economic overtures aimed at improving bilateral ties, the Afghan Taliban regime has failed to act against Indian-sponsored terror proxies such as Fitna Al Khwarij and Fitna Al Hindustan, instead offering them support.
Commitment to Counterterrorism in KPK
Assuring the tribal elders, Field Marshal Munir stated that Pakistan—particularly Khyber Pakhtunkhwa—will be cleansed of terrorists and their facilitators. He reaffirmed the Armed Forces’ resolve to eliminate threats to national security and uphold peace across the region.
Reception in Peshawar
Upon arrival in Peshawar, the COAS was received by Commander Peshawar Corps.
