RAWALPINDI: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi concluded his sit-in near Adiala Jail on Thursday night after authorities again refused to grant him access to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan.

Afridi had arrived in Rawalpindi expressing concern over reports about Khan’s health and sought to meet him inside the jail. When denied, he staged a protest outside the facility, joined by party lawmakers. The chief minister demanded that Khan’s family members and personal physician be allowed to visit him, citing PTI’s repeated concerns about the former premier’s condition.

Health concerns and government response

The development came hours after Information Minister Attaullah Tarar confirmed Khan was briefly taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) for medical assessment. Tarar told Geo News that eye specialists examined Khan at Adiala Jail and recommended further evaluation at Pims.

He said Khan underwent a procedure for an eye ailment on Saturday night before being returned to Adiala Jail with medical instructions. The minister stressed that Khan’s vital signs remained stable and described his overall health as satisfactory. “He is absolutely healthy,” Tarar said, adding that medical care is provided to all prisoners in line with jail rules.

PTI petition for jail access

Separately, PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja said the party has filed a petition in the trial court seeking permission to meet Khan in jail. He described the health reports as concerning, noting that Khan had no eye-related issues when last examined a year ago. Raja added he would submit a memorandum to the Supreme Court on Friday morning.
