UPPER DIR (Syed Zahid Jan) — The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Local Government Department officially launched the Clean and Transparent KP Program in Upper Dir District, marking a major step toward modernizing sanitation infrastructure and promoting public health.
The inauguration ceremony at Dir Stadium drew elected representatives, officials, and local citizens. Dignitaries included MNA Sabghatullah, MPA Muhammad Anwar Khan, Deputy Commissioner Naveed Akbar, Tehsil Chairman Sheringal Gul Shah Wali Khan, and Senior Assistant Director of Local Government Haji Badshah Zada.
Speaking at the event, Haji Badshah Zada briefed attendees on the program’s scope. He announced that 117 village councils had received sanitation equipment, including rakshas, loader vehicles, and trollies. As a result, these tools will help councils manage waste and maintain cleanliness more effectively.
To support the initiative, 234 sanitation staff were hired on merit. They will be responsible for maintaining hygiene standards across their assigned areas. In this regard, the Clean and Transparent KP Program aims to create a cleaner, healthier environment for Upper Dir’s residents by upgrading the district’s sanitation system.
Meanwhile, MNA Sabghatullah and MPA Muhammad Anwar Khan praised the provincial government’s commitment to cleanliness. They emphasized that “cleanliness is half of faith” and commended Tehsil Chairman Shah Wali Khan for his leadership. Moreover, both leaders highlighted the program’s potential to uplift sanitation standards in urban and rural communities alike.
Additionally, Deputy Commissioner Naveed Akbar assured full cooperation from the district administration. He acknowledged the hard work of sanitation staff and stressed the societal importance of maintaining a clean environment.
In a separate announcement, MPA Muhammad Anwar Khan pledged a donation of one crore rupees for development projects at the Dir Sports Complex. Accordingly, the funds will be used to enhance facilities and support local athletes.
Public representatives and citizens expressed strong support for the Clean and Transparent KP Program, voicing hope for similar development initiatives in the future. Furthermore, they appreciated the government’s efforts and promised to contribute to the program’s success.
Ultimately, the launch of this initiative marks a significant milestone in Upper Dir’s journey toward improved sanitation and public health. Its success will depend on coordinated efforts between village councils, district administration, and the community.
