Shangla: Following a severe and unprecedented snowstorm in Shangla district, young volunteers of the Civil Defence Volunteer Force have been working alongside other departments to clear snow-blocked roads and carry out rescue operations in affected areas.

Despite extreme cold and harsh weather conditions, Civil Defence volunteers continued efforts to remove thick layers of frozen snow from major roads and link routes. The volunteers also played a key role in rescuing vehicles stranded due to heavy snowfall, demonstrating strong commitment to public service.

After the snowfall, the Baila Baba Bazaar Road and several other important routes were completely frozen, causing long queues of vehicles on both sides of the roads. Traffic movement came to a halt, creating serious difficulties for commuters and local residents.

The Rescue 1122, with the help of blade tractors, remained engaged in clearing the link roads and restoring traffic flow. However, continuous freezing in areas such as Naga, Machar, and Alpuri caused repeated blockages. At the Naga point, vehicles remained stuck for hours due to icy conditions, worsening transportation problems for nearby communities.

Local residents said that despite limited resources, Civil Defence volunteers stayed on the ground from early morning until late at night. They assisted passengers, pushed stranded vehicles, and helped ensure safe movement wherever possible.

Citizens also paid tribute to the volunteers on social media, praising their selfless services. Many highlighted that the volunteers were working without any salary, allowance, or personal benefit, braving bone-chilling temperatures solely to help the public.

Social media users said that society needs such dedicated individuals who serve humanity without expecting reward or recognition. They noted that during emergencies like heavy snowfall, the efforts of Civil Defence volunteers play a vital role in reducing public hardship.

The public strongly appreciated the courage, dedication, and spirit of volunteerism shown by Civil Defence volunteers and other field workers, calling their services a shining example of social responsibility and humanitarian commitment.
