CIA Thatta Incharge Granted Bail in Custodial Torture Case, Sujawal CIA Incharge manhandled by Unruly Mob in Darro

The Court of the First Additional and Sessions Judge, Thatta , on Monday, granted bail to the CIA Incharge of Thatta in a case related to custodial torture, registered by the FIA Circle Hyderabad.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Hyderabad, had registered a case against CIA Incharge Thatta, Mumtaz Brohi; SHO Thatta, Athar Chana; and three others for allegedly torturing politician Iqbal Khaskeli and journalist Yousif Shaheen while in police custody. The case was registered under Sections 337-A(i), 337-F(vi), 109, and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code, 1860, and Section 8 of the Torture and Custodial Death (Prevention and Punishment) Act, 2022.

Following the registration of the FIR, the FIA arrested CIA Incharge Thatta, Mumtaz Brohi, and obtained a three-day physical remand from the Special FIA Court in Hyderabad.

An application was earlier filed by journalist Yousif Shaheen and politician Iqbal Khaskeli before the Sessions Court, Hyderabad, which directed the FIA to investigate the matter and take appropriate action in accordance with the law.

In a separate incident, the Incharge of CIA Police Sujawal was reportedly manhandled near the town of Daro in Sujawal district. According to local residents, the officer, while riding in a car and accompanied by others, arrived at shops belonging to local residents and began demanding money. He allegedly threatened to falsely implicate them in drug-related cases if they refused to pay. The threats reportedly enraged the local population, resulting in the officer being physically assaulted by an angry mob.

According to credible sources, SSP Sujawal has ordered an inquiry into the incident.
