DAR ES SALAAM: China and Tanzania have reaffirmed their longstanding friendship and pledged to deepen cooperation across development, infrastructure, and people-to-people exchanges, as senior leaders from both countries met in Tanzania’s commercial capital.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi made the remarks during a meeting with Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan in Dar es Salaam on Saturday. Wang said the friendship between the two countries, forged by earlier generations of leaders, has endured changing global circumstances and remains a key foundation of bilateral relations.
President Hassan asked Wang to convey New Year greetings to Xi Jinping and thanked China for its continued support for Tanzania’s development, particularly under the framework of the Forum on China–Africa Cooperation. She reaffirmed Tanzania’s adherence to the one-China principle and expressed readiness to align national development plans with China’s initiatives.
Hassan said Tanzania aims to deepen practical cooperation with China, advance the revitalization of the Tanzania–Zambia Railway, build a regional prosperity belt, strengthen inter-party exchanges, and expand people-to-people contacts to support economic growth and shared development.
She also welcomed China’s four major global initiatives proposed by President Xi, saying Tanzania is prepared to enhance multilateral coordination with Beijing and jointly promote a more just and equitable global governance system.
Wang conveyed President Xi’s greetings to Hassan and reiterated that China attaches high importance to its relations with Tanzania. He said Beijing is ready to implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state, strengthen exchanges on governance experience, expand people-to-people engagement, and advance the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries.
He added that China appreciates Tanzania’s firm commitment to the one-China principle and supports its efforts to safeguard sovereignty, independence, and national dignity. Wang said both sides should promote high-quality cooperation, including turning the revitalized Tanzania–Zambia Railway into a driver of regional development.
China, he said, also supports Tanzania in playing a greater role in regional and international affairs and is willing to work with Tanzania and other developing countries to promote peace, stability, and development globally.
