RAWALPINDI: Former interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has announced that his political group intends to field candidates in every ward across the relevant areas in the upcoming local government elections.

The announcement was made during a political meeting at the residence of former Chakri Union Council chairman Chaudhry Ghulam Qamar. The gathering was attended by representatives from seven union councils of Chontra, local political figures and a large number of residents, according to Sheikh Zeeshan Saeed, spokesperson for the former minister.

Addressing the meeting, Chaudhry Nisar said his group would field candidates in every ward in Rawat, Adiala Road, Police Station Chontra and Chakri if local government elections are held.

He said candidates’ strength would be determined by public support and that decisions regarding the chairmanship should reflect their electoral performance. He added that his group intended to secure representation at every level of local government through public backing.

Commenting on the national political situation, Nisar said injustice should not be done to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan. Referring to his relationship with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, he described the prime minister as his friend.

The meeting focused on preparations for the forthcoming local government elections, grassroots representation and coordination among political representatives from the seven union councils.

The gathering highlighted the group’s stated intention to participate broadly in the local polls. However, the election schedule and other details remain subject to official announcements.
