Indian media has claimed that Indian captain Rohit Sharma is unlikely to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy’s opening ceremony and captains’ meet. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia stated that no such proposal has been received, adding that they will not accommodate PCB’s requests under any circumstances.
The Champions Trophy 2025 is scheduled to be held in Pakistan from February 19. However, India has refused to send its team to Pakistan, resulting in India’s matches being played in the UAE under a hybrid model. Recently, there were reports suggesting that Rohit Sharma might visit Pakistan for the opening ceremony and captains’ meet.
Indian media now reports, citing sources, that there is no possibility of Rohit Sharma attending the event in Pakistan. When asked about this, BCCI’s new secretary, Devajit Saikia, clarified that no such proposal has been discussed with the ICC.
BCCI sources further stated they would not fulfill PCB’s wishes under any circumstances. Media reports also suggest that in the absence of the Indian team, the opening ceremony and captains’ meet will be scaled down.
Interestingly, ICC Chairman Jay Shah is the son of India’s Home Minister Amit Shah. If the Indian team fails to qualify for the final, scheduled in Lahore, it remains to be seen whether Jay Shah will travel to Pakistan to present the trophy.
