Chairperson BISP Senator Rubina Khalid Meets Governor Gilgit-Baltistan Syed Mehdi Shah

Chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Programme, Rubina Khalid, on Tuesday met Governor Gilgit-Baltistan Syed Mehdi Shah at BISP Headquarters to discuss the expansion of welfare initiatives for deserving women and families in the region.

During the meeting, the two sides held detailed discussions on the registration of eligible women from Gilgit-Baltistan under BISP, as well as the identification, outreach, assistance, and rehabilitation of families affected by natural disasters. Matters of mutual interest related to social protection and poverty alleviation were also reviewed.

Rubina Khalid said that enrolling deserving women from remote and hard-to-reach areas of Gilgit-Baltistan into BISP remains a top priority. She stressed that the deployment of Mobile Registration Vans would be further strengthened to ensure maximum outreach and inclusion of eligible women across far-flung areas of the province.

She also briefed the governor on the Benazir Hunarmand Programme, under which women are being provided skills training in various fields to promote economic empowerment and improve employment prospects.

The BISP chairperson assured full cooperation for the prompt resolution of issues faced in the province, adding that all BISP programmes are operating with a focus on transparency, efficiency, and effective service delivery to deserving individuals.

Governor Syed Mehdi Shah appreciated the role of BISP in supporting vulnerable communities and said the Government of Gilgit-Baltistan would extend all possible cooperation to ensure the successful implementation of BISP initiatives across the region.
