Expert views on Iran’s role in nuclear non-proliferation

The keynote speaker, nuclear affairs specialist Sameer Ali Khan, argued that Iran had not violated the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). Instead, he said, Iran’s case exposed existing loopholes in the treaty meant to restrict nuclear weapons to the five recognised nuclear states. He also pointed to the long-term implications of US and Israeli attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities and called for consistent global norms and reforms to prevent destabilisation.

CASS leadership stresses JCPOA expiry challenges

CASS Lahore President Air Marshal Asim Suleiman (Retd) said the expiry of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in October 2025 marked a crucial moment for the global non-proliferation system. He described nuclear non-proliferation as a global public good that must be applied impartially and enforced universally to remain credible.

The event concluded with a question-and-answer session, where participants stressed the need to protect the non-proliferation regime to maintain international stability.
