Islamabad: The Centre for Aerospace & Security Studies (CASS), Islamabad, convened a high-level Roundtable Conference on “Psychological & Strategic Layers of Air & Aerospace Power,” bringing together senior defence experts and scholars to examine how emerging technologies, doctrine, and leadership are reshaping the regional security landscape.
The event focused on the evolving role of Artificial Intelligence (AI), space systems, and Electronic Warfare (EW) in redefining the balance of power in South Asia. As an independent think tank, CASS continues to foster strategic dialogue on national and regional security, with a particular emphasis on the future of air and aerospace capabilities.
Aerospace Doctrine, Leadership, and Decision Cycles
Moderated by Air Vice Marshal Nasser ul Haq Wyne (Retd), Director CASS, the discussion opened with a call to recognize that technological superiority alone is no longer sufficient. “Victory now hinges on clarity of doctrine, psychological readiness, and compressed decision loops,” he noted, highlighting the impact of rapid information cycles on perception and performance.
Strategic Advantage Through Aerospace Integration
Air Marshal Zulfiqar Ahmed Qureshi (Retd), President of the Centre for Character & Leadership Development (JCCL) at PAF Academy, delivered the first keynote address. He emphasized that true aerospace power lies not just in platforms, but in strategy, training, and leadership. He underscored the importance of integrating space, cyber, EW, and AI to compress the OODA loop — enabling faster, more decisive action. “Nations thrive when they secure their citizens,” he said, reaffirming the Pakistan Air Force’s central role in national security.
Psychological Warfare and Aerospace Resilience
The second keynote speaker, Air Marshal Farooq Habib (Retd), former Director CASS, explored the psychological dimensions of modern warfare. He stressed the need for resilience training for leaders operating under ambiguous and deceptive conditions, and advocated for public education to counter adversarial psychological tactics. He also called for stronger integration of social sciences and information operations within air strategy planning.
Aerospace Strategy and Future Outlook
In his concluding remarks, Air Marshal Javaid Ahmed (Retd), President CASS, thanked the speakers for their insights and reaffirmed the think tank’s commitment to advancing strategic thought. “As warfare expands into cyber, space, and information domains, psychological deterrence is becoming as critical as technological strength,” he said.
The roundtable underscored the need for doctrines that blend intellect, innovation, and resolve — positioning Pakistan’s aerospace strategy for the challenges ahead.
