Naval Chief visits United States to boost maritime cooperation

Islamabad — Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Naveed Ashraf, paid an official visit to the United States as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral maritime cooperation and defence relations between the two countries.

During his visit, Admiral Naveed Ashraf held meetings with several senior US officials, including Vice Admiral Yvette Davids, Deputy Chief of Naval Operations, and Vice Admiral Thomas G. Allan Jr., Acting Vice Commandant of the US Coast Guard. Discussions focused on regional security dynamics, avenues for professional training, and expanding maritime collaboration.

The Naval Chief also visited the US National Defence University (NDU), where he met with its President, Vice Admiral Peter A. Garvin. Additionally, he called on Mr. Stanley L. Brown, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs, at the US State Department. Their discussions covered politico-military cooperation, maritime security, and capacity-building initiatives.

Admiral Naveed Ashraf also addressed a gathering of American scholars and think-tank experts, where he highlighted regional maritime security challenges and the Pakistan Navy’s ongoing contributions to collaborative international maritime efforts.

The visit underscores the strong and enduring defence partnership between Pakistan and the United States and reaffirms both nations’ shared commitment to promoting peace, stability, and maritime cooperation and security in the region and beyond.
