Islamabad – BYD, the world’s leading new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturer, has achieved a major milestone. Its Shark 6 pickup secured a 5-star safety rating from the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP), one of the most trusted vehicle safety authorities worldwide. Notably, the Shark 6 is the first plug-in hybrid pickup tested under ANCAP’s strict protocols.
Global and Local Impact
The 5-star rating sets a new global safety standard in the pickup category and gives Pakistani buyers added confidence. ANCAP’s assessment covered crash protection for adults, children, and pedestrians, as well as active safety technologies. The Shark 6 scored maximum points in side impact and oblique pole crash tests, proving its exceptional strength and stability.
Lei Jian, Country Head of BYD Pakistan, said:
“For BYD, safety isn’t just a feature—it’s the foundation of everything we build. We are proud to bring world-class protection to Pakistan with the Shark 6. This recognition shows our commitment to cutting-edge technology, road safety, and peace of mind for families, commuters, and adventurers. With the Shark 6, we are redefining what a pickup can be—tough, innovative, and uncompromising on safety.”
Advanced Safety Features
The BYD Shark 6 comes with dual frontal, side, and center airbags. Its Autonomous Emergency Braking system detects cars, pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcycles. Other highlights include lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, and a driver monitoring system to track fatigue and distraction. These features help prevent accidents before they happen, not just protect occupants during a crash.
Child Safety Excellence
The Shark 6 also excelled in Child Occupant Protection. Crash tests showed top-level shielding for young passengers. A Child Presence Detection system monitors all rear seats and can even turn on the air-conditioning automatically if it senses an unattended child, ensuring safety and comfort for families.
