Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD has introduced a new version of its Seal sedan, the Seal 07 EV, featuring ultra-fast charging technology and updated battery systems aimed at reducing charging times and improving driving range. The model is expected to launch in China with a starting price equivalent to under A$35,000.
The new BYD Seal 07 EV incorporates the company’s latest flash charging technology, capable of charging the battery from 10% to 70% in around five minutes when connected to compatible high-power charging stations. The technology uses updated lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs built on BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery platform.
Flash charging and battery technology
The charging system is designed to support speeds of up to 1,500 kW at the company’s upcoming flash charging stations. BYD said the technology aims to significantly reduce charging times for electric vehicles while maintaining the safety characteristics associated with Blade Battery technology.
Early customers purchasing the Seal 07 EV will receive one year of complimentary access to the company’s flash charging network, according to the manufacturer.
Vehicle size, range and performance
The Seal 07 EV is slightly larger than the existing Seal sedan and measures approximately 4,995 mm in length. It is powered by a single rear electric motor producing 240 kW.
The vehicle uses a 69 kWh second-generation Blade Battery pack and is expected to deliver an estimated driving range of up to 705 kilometers under the NEDC testing cycle. Under the WLTP standard commonly used internationally, the range is expected to exceed 550 kilometers.
Interior features and design updates
Inside the vehicle, the cabin includes a 15.6-inch infotainment display and a 50-watt wireless phone charger located in the center console. The gear selector has been repositioned to the steering column, a design approach increasingly used in recent BYD models.
The new platform also provides additional storage space, including a 133-liter front trunk, significantly larger than the 53-liter front storage compartment found in the current Seal model.
Technology and driver assistance
BYD said the Seal 07 EV will offer more than 100 standard features and can be equipped with LiDAR sensors to support advanced driver-assistance systems.
