KARACHI: Mega Motor Company (MMC), BYD’s official partner in Pakistan, has announced that BYD has reached a milestone of 10,000 vehicles on Pakistani roads, describing the achievement as the fastest ramp-up by a new entrant New Energy Vehicle (NEV) brand in the country’s automotive history.

The milestone comes as consumer interest in new energy mobility grows in Pakistan and ahead of the planned start of local assembly. BYD entered the Pakistani market with the Atto 3 and Seal and has since expanded its lineup to five models.

The current portfolio includes the Atto 2, described by the company as Pakistan’s top-selling EV, the Sealion 7 and the Shark 6, which MMC says is the country’s first plug-in hybrid (PHEV) pickup.

MMC CEO Aly Khan said the 10,000-vehicle milestone reflects the company’s efforts to establish infrastructure, capabilities and market presence for the wider adoption of new energy vehicles in Pakistan. He also said MMC is preparing to launch what the company describes as Pakistan’s first and largest NEV assembly facility.

BYD Asia Pacific Auto Sales Division General Manager and BYD Co. Ltd Vice President Liu Xueliang said Pakistan has become an important market in the company’s global expansion. He said BYD would continue working with MMC to provide products suited to local consumer demand and expand its presence in the market.

The upcoming BYD-MMC facility is expected to become a dedicated NEV production plant and represents the next stage of the companies’ plans to move from importing new energy vehicles toward local production in Pakistan.

The announcement positions the 10,000-vehicle milestone as an indicator of growing consumer adoption while Pakistan’s NEV market remains in an early stage of development.
