Business community opposes heavy taxes and sales tax provisions

A business community delegation led by FPCCI President will meet with the Finance Minister. Representatives from Chambers of Commerce across Pakistan, led by Mr. Atif Ikram Sheikh, President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), will hold a meeting with Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb. Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal, Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik, FBR Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial, and the Secretary of Commerce will also be present at the meeting. The agenda for the meeting is to deliberate on the recent taxation measures introduced in the Finance Bill 2025 and to present the Business Community’s stance. To this end, the President of FPCCI will lead a delegation to meet with key government stakeholders.

FPCCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh stated that the business community has reservations about Sections 37AA, 8B, and 40B of the Sales Tax Act, and Section 21S of the Income Tax Ordinance. Conducting business with unregistered entities has also been categorized as fraud, which is creating an atmosphere of harassment. He emphasized that the country’s economy is improving and the business community’s confidence has been restored. He added that the climate of fear among people should end and that they do not wish to create any difficulties in the current situation, therefore the government should accept the demands of the business community.
