WASHINGTON: Masood Khan, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States, told Pakistani-American businesspeople Thursday that the current government is supporting and offering attractive incentives to financiers to participate in all aspects of the country’s economy.
“Promoting Pak-US bilateral trade and increasing US investment in Pakistan is the top priority,” he stated during a virtual conference with the leadership of the California-based Pakistan American Chamber of Commerce (PACC), led by Chairman Waqar Ali Khan.
Other Chamber members who attended the meeting included Dr. Sana Khan, Fawad Ismail, Zubair Rao, Maqsood Chaudhry, Dr Salahuddin, and Mr Farrukh.
In addition, Pakistan’s Consul General in Los Angeles, Asim Ali Khan, and Trade and Investment Counselor Quratulain Fatima were in attendance.
In a statement, Masood Khan stated, “The newly established Special Investment Facilitation Council is taking practical steps to remove hurdles in the way of foreign investors undertaking profitable business ventures in Pakistan.” Masood Khan said.
Appreciating PACC’s role in promoting trade activities and connecting the two countries’ business communities, the Ambassador emphasized the importance of greater collaboration among various chambers and trade organizations working across the United States to strengthen Pakistan-US trade and investment ties.
“By investing their resources back home, Pak-American investors would not only be reaping huge dividends but would also be contributing towards the socio-economic progress of their motherland,” the U.S. Ambassador stated.
PACC Chairman Waqar Ali Khan informed the Ambassador on the chamber’s numerous activities, particularly its achievements in increasing trade activity in the health, food, and textile sectors.
He stated that PACC was working closely with the Pakistani Consulate in Los Angeles to host a single-country expo in the near future.
Waqar Khan also proposed a sister-city partnership between Karachi and Los Angeles, which he claimed would not only increase trade but also allow technology transfer.
Dr. Sana Khan stated that Pakistani radiologists and technicians are being taught to remotely operate and deliver radiology services in the Middle East, Europe, and the United States.
Consul General Asim Ali Khan stated that the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce had received a detailed presentation on the Special Investment Facilitation Council and how the Council was supporting enterprises in an innovative and business-friendly manner. The Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce represents about 1800 businesses.
Counselor Quratulain Fatima informed the conference of efforts to strengthen commercial ties and organize trade events in partnership with appropriate trade agencies and organizations.
