Islamabad — Thunder were crowned champions of the BoK Islamabad Women League U-19 after defeating Striker by 29 runs in an entertaining final at the COMSATS University Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
The youth tournament brought together 56 players, divided into four teams, underscoring the expanding pool of young female cricketing talent in Pakistan. The final delivered a competitive contest, with Thunder posting 105 for 5 after being sent in to bat. Striker, in reply, were bowled out for 76.
Rozina Akram starred for the champions and was named Player of the Match after scoring 30 off 30 balls and returning figures of three wickets for 10 runs in 3.3 overs. Nosheen Khushal earned Player of the Tournament honours for her consistent performances throughout the event.
Organisers said the league met its objective of providing structured competition and exposure at the under-19 level, while also strengthening the pathway for women’s cricket. The event was organised by Cric19.com and sponsored by Bank of Khyber, Qabeelah and Lake Shore City.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Ali Hemani, CEO of the Islamabad Women League, said the initiative aimed to bridge the gap between grassroots talent and higher-level opportunities by offering competitive matches, professional exposure and media coverage.
Following the successful conclusion of the under-19 competition, organisers confirmed that preparations are under way to launch a senior women’s league, further broadening opportunities for female cricketers across the country.
