SHANGLA (Aftab Hussain): The bodies of five laborers from Shangla, who lost their lives in the recent Kurram coal mine accident, have been recovered and laid to rest in their hometowns. The victims—Taj Allah, Ziaur Rehman, Shawkat, Naz Allah, and Jan Muhammad—were trapped underground for several days before being located.

The tragic incident occurred last week when a section of the coal mine in Yasta Tora Wari, Kurram district, collapsed, trapping six workers. Five of the victims hailed from Puran tehsil in Shangla, while one was from Swat district.

A four-day rescue operation was launched by local authorities, supported by rescue teams and volunteers. The recovery effort was hampered by the mine’s depth and hazardous conditions, making the operation both difficult and dangerous.

The Kurram coal mine accident has sent shockwaves through the Shangla community, where coal mining remains a primary source of livelihood. Families and residents expressed deep grief and outrage over the loss of life, highlighting the growing risks faced by laborers in the mining sector.

The tragedy has reignited calls for improved safety protocols and stricter enforcement of mining regulations to prevent future incidents. Many are urging authorities to take immediate action to protect workers and ensure accountability.

Funeral services for the deceased were attended by a large number of mourners, who gathered to pay their final respects and support the grieving families.
