KARACHI: Benazir Income Support Programme Chairperson Senator Rubina Khalid and BISP Secretary Amer Ali Ahmad met State Bank Governor Jameel Ahmad in Karachi to discuss digital wallet payments and an interoperability mechanism for beneficiaries.
The meeting focused on shifting BISP payments toward digital wallets under the Prime Minister’s cashless economy vision. The proposed system is aimed at improving payment access, transparency and financial inclusion for low-income beneficiaries.
Senator Rubina Khalid said BISP was moving toward digitising beneficiary payments under the special directions of the President of Pakistan and the Prime Minister’s vision for a cashless economy.
She said the distribution of free mobile SIMs had been expedited, while awareness campaigns had also been strengthened. Beneficiaries who have not yet received SIMs have been advised to collect them from their nearest BISP offices before June 15, 2026.
Rubina Khalid said the interoperability mechanism would allow beneficiaries to withdraw payments from any bank of their choice. She said the initiative would help make payments easier and more transparent.
State Bank Governor Jameel Ahmad assured full cooperation in implementing the interoperability mechanism for BISP beneficiaries.
