ISLAMABAD: Benazir Income Support Programme Chairperson Rubina Khalid and National Assembly Standing Committee on Defence Chairman Sardar Fatehullah Khan Miankhel have agreed to further expand BISP support for deserving families across Pakistan, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The agreement came during a meeting at BISP headquarters in Islamabad, where both sides discussed improving the delivery of financial assistance, strengthening women’s economic empowerment and making the programme more accessible for beneficiaries.
According to details, the meeting focused on steps to make payments to deserving families faster, more transparent and more effective. The participants also reviewed measures to improve facilities for women registered under the programme.
Rubina Khalid said transparency and merit would remain top priorities in welfare programmes. The meeting also discussed the use of digital systems to provide direct assistance to eligible women and reduce delays in payment distribution.
Focus on women’s access and transparency
The participants discussed ways to strengthen BISP’s role in social protection and women’s economic independence. They also considered new steps to improve access for deserving women beneficiaries, particularly at the constituency and provincial levels.
Both sides agreed that the programme’s distribution system should be further improved to ensure that financial support reaches eligible families in a timely and transparent manner.
The meeting also reviewed proposals to make the social protection network more active across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other parts of the country.
