Islamabad: Customs Enforcement authorities have foiled an alleged attempt to smuggle a large quantity of narcotics, recovering 1,200 kilograms of hashish worth approximately Rs5.4 billion near the M-2 Motorway.
According to officials, the Anti-Smuggling Squad conducted the operation at around 2:30am on October 2 following a tip-off. During the search, authorities recovered 1,200kg of hashish along with approximately 100kg of poppy seeds, firearms and a non-customs-paid 2005 Toyota Prado allegedly being used to transport the narcotics.
Officials said the suspects took advantage of the darkness and fled the scene before they could be apprehended.
A case has been registered against unidentified suspects under the Control of Narcotic Substances Act, 1997, and the Customs Act, 1969. Further investigation is underway
