RAWALPINDI, April 20 — Pakistani security forces killed two suspected militants during an intelligence-based operation in Bannu district, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Sunday, adding that the action prevented a potential suicide attack.

The operation, carried out on April 19, targeted individuals believed to be involved in militant activities. Officials said the exchange of fire resulted in the deaths of two suspects, including a local commander identified as Waheedullah alias Muktiar and a suicide bomber.

Wanted commander among those killed

According to ISPR, Waheedullah was listed among the most wanted suspects due to his alleged involvement in attacks against security personnel and civilians.

The military said he had also been linked to a suicide attack in Bannu on February 21, 2026, which resulted in the death of Lieutenant Colonel Gul Faraz.

Weapons and explosive material recovered

Security forces recovered a suicide jacket, along with weapons and ammunition, from the site of the operation, the statement said.

Officials described the operation as a targeted action based on intelligence regarding militant presence in the area.

Follow-up clearance underway

A clearance operation is ongoing to locate any remaining suspects in the area, ISPR said.

The military added that counterterrorism operations under the “Azm-e-Istehkam” framework will continue across the country to address militant threats.
