ISLAMABAD, Saturday, September 19, 2026: Balochistan’s People’s Train Service project has achieved 35% physical progress and is scheduled for completion by December 31, 2026, as the provincial government moves ahead with plans to improve affordable rail connectivity between Saryab and Kuchlak.
The Balochistan government has allocated Rs1.7 billion for the project, which is designed to provide commuters with a faster, affordable and more convenient public transport option, according to project documents available with Wealth Pakistan.
The proposed train service will operate between Saryab and Kuchlak railway stations, improving passenger connectivity along an important corridor serving Quetta and its surrounding areas.
Project cost estimated at Rs2.94 billion
The Planning and Development Wing of the Government of Balochistan approved the project’s Rs2.94 billion PC-I on January 26, 2026.
According to the documents, the project comprises civil works estimated at approximately Rs1.5 billion and mechanical works of about Rs1.45 billion.
An agreement covering infrastructure works worth Rs468 million was signed with the executing agency on February 18, 2026.
With physical progress now reported at 35%, work is continuing towards the December 31 completion target.
New rail link to improve local travel
The People’s Train Service is being developed as a new passenger rail initiative connecting Saryab with Kuchlak.
The project is intended to offer residents an alternative public transport option while reducing travel difficulties for people commuting along the route.
Once operational, the service is expected to strengthen local connectivity and provide a more accessible rail-based transport option for passengers in Balochistan.
