Babar Azam will miss the remainder of the Big Bash League after being recalled to Pakistan for a national team camp ahead of an upcoming T20 International series against Australia. His franchise, Sydney Sixers, confirmed the development on Thursday, just hours before their challenger final.
The right-handed opener is set to rejoin Pakistan’s preparations as the team gears up for a three-match T20I series against Australia, scheduled to begin on January 29 in Lahore. The series will also act as an important build-up event ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup next month.
In a farewell video message shared by the Sixers, Babar thanked the team management and coaching staff, saying he had greatly enjoyed his time in Australia and would take valuable experience back home despite leaving due to national duty.

Pakistan has not yet officially announced its squad for the Australia series, and the Pakistan Cricket Board has so far not issued a formal statement regarding Babar’s recall.
Babar had initially been slated to be available for the full BBL season and was not included in Pakistan’s recent T20I series earlier this month. Sydney Sixers management acknowledged that the plan was for him to complete the tournament and expressed appreciation for his contribution during his stint.
The star batter concludes his first Big Bash League campaign with 202 runs from 11 matches, averaging 22.44 with a strike rate of 103.06, including two half-centuries.
