Pakistan captain Babar Azam has been rewarded for his impressive performance against the West Indies by returning to the top 10 of the ICC Test batting rankings after a gap of nearly two years.
Babar climbed five places to 10th in the latest rankings after playing a key role in Pakistan’s eight-wicket victory over the West Indies in the second Test at Port of Spain. The result levelled the two-match series 1-1.
Babar scored 88 runs in the first innings and remained unbeaten on 24 during Pakistan’s successful chase in the second innings. His latest ranking marks his return to the Test top 10 for the first time since September 2024.
Babar had previously reached a career-best second position in the Test batting rankings during Pakistan’s home series against England in December 2022.
Abdullah Shafique Makes Major Jump
Pakistan opener Abdullah Shafique also made significant progress, climbing 25 places to 32nd in the Test batting rankings.
Shafique played a match-winning role in the Port of Spain Test, scoring 160 in the first innings before adding an unbeaten 24 in the successful chase. His performance earned him the Player of the Match award.
Progress in Bowling Rankings
Pakistan also saw movement in the bowling rankings. West Indies pacer Shamar Joseph moved up to 19th, while Pakistan spinner Sajid Khan climbed to 30th.
The latest rankings reflect the strong individual performances from Pakistan’s players during their Caribbean tour, with Babar and Shafique making some of the most notable gains.
