Cricket Australia is considering expanding its Test hosting commitments for Pakistan, with a five-match Test series emerging as a possibility in the future.
Cricket Australia Chief Executive Todd Greenberg said Pakistan could be a suitable opponent for a longer Test series, particularly because of the large Pakistani diaspora in Australia.
Speaking to the media, Greenberg said Australia could potentially host Pakistan for five Test matches, highlighting the strong interest in Pakistani cricket among communities across the country.
Greenberg also described the possibility of expanding the World Test Championship (WTC) to 12 teams during the next championship cycle as increasingly realistic.
He said Zimbabwe, Afghanistan and Ireland could potentially be included in the WTC for the two-year cycle, which would broaden participation in the longest format of the game.
Pakistan are currently scheduled to tour Australia in December 2027, with the two teams set to play a three-Test series.
The potential expansion to five Tests would represent a significant increase from the currently scheduled three-match series and could provide a more substantial Test contest between the two sides.
