MNA Asyia Naz reviews Ramzan Nigehban Dastarkhwan in Taxila

TAXILA: Member of the National Assembly Asyia Naz Tanoli visited the Ramzan Nigehban Dastarkhwan in Taxila on Tuesday to review ongoing Ramadan relief efforts and assess public welfare measures introduced by the Punjab government during the holy month.

Accompanied by Assistant Commissioner Maryia Javaid and Chief Officer Municipal Committee Gulshan Noreen, the MNA met volunteers, beneficiaries and local officials at the community iftar site, where free meals are being provided daily to fasting individuals.

Officials briefed her that hundreds of people are benefiting each day from the Nigehban Dastarkhwan, while parallel price control operations are being conducted in Ramzan Bazaars to prevent overpricing of essential commodities.

Speaking during the visit, Asyia Naz said the Ramadan relief initiatives, including Ramzan Bazaars and community dastarkhwans, are aimed at easing the financial burden on low-income families. She said monitoring mechanisms have been introduced to ensure transparency, maintain food quality and regulate prices across the district.

She added that under the Ramzan Nigehban Package 2026, eligible families are receiving direct financial assistance, including a Rs10,000 cash benefit provided through smart cards to help manage household expenses.

Local residents present at the site welcomed the arrangements. Rehmat Din, a beneficiary, said the initiative had reduced financial pressure on families during Ramadan. Zaman Khan said the relief measures had helped households cope with rising expenses during the month.

Women beneficiaries also expressed satisfaction with the arrangements. Balquees Begum, a widow, said the environment was respectful and organized, while Fatima Batool noted that subsidized markets and free meals had provided practical support. Rukhsana Perveen said the quality of food and overall management reflected coordinated efforts by the administration.

According to officials, the provincial government’s price control campaign includes inspections and enforcement actions to keep essential items affordable throughout Ramadan.
