Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Muneeba Ali has withdrawn from the women’s cricket event at the 2026 Asian Games and returned to Pakistan following her mother’s illness.
Muneeba travelled back home from Dubai after the conclusion of the Asia Cup, while the rest of Pakistan’s women’s squad proceeded to Japan for the Asian Games. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided not to call up a replacement because of the limited time available and the knockout stage being scheduled to conclude by September 22.
Gul Feroza to take over wicketkeeping duties
In Muneeba’s absence, Gul Feroza will take responsibility for wicketkeeping and is also expected to open the batting for Pakistan.
Gul Feroza performed both roles during Pakistan’s quarter-final against Thailand, where Pakistan secured a three-wicket victory in a rain-affected match to advance to the semi-finals.
Pakistan will face Sri Lanka in the semi-final on September 20 as the team continues its campaign at the Asian Games.
