Indian gymnast Pranati Nayak and her coach Ashok Mishra were mistakenly assigned the same room at the 2026 Asian Games accommodation in Nagoya, Japan, prompting officials to arrange separate rooms late at night.
The incident occurred aboard the cruise ship being used to accommodate members of the Indian contingent. According to reports, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) intervened and separate accommodation was arranged at around 1:30 a.m. on Thursday. Nayak later confirmed that the issue was resolved at about 2 a.m.
Separate room delayed by paperwork error
The accommodation issue continued for Mishra even after a separate room had been arranged. When he went to collect the key, hotel staff could not find his booking in the register.
Reports said the problem was caused by a clerical error in the official records, where the letter “I” was missing from Mishra’s name. Officials had to recheck his accreditation and booking details before correcting the record.
The verification process took another 45 minutes, meaning Mishra was able to access his room only after 2 a.m.
Nayak confirmed the accommodation mix-up and said the matter had been resolved around 2 a.m., according to NDTV.
