Islamabad: Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, daughter of President Asif Ali Zardari, has now become the First Lady of Pakistan after becoming a Member of the National Assembly (MNA) for the first time.
Aseefa did not vote in the Nawabshah elections. She was given the protocol of the country’s first woman when she arrived at the Parliament on Tuesday.
NA Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq administered the oath to Aseefa Bhutto in the National Assembly.
The status of the first mother is generally given to the wife of the country’s president. But Zardari was widowed in 2007 after his wife and former prime minister Benazir Bhutto was assassinated.
Zardari never remarried, and during his first term as president from 2008 to 2013, the post of first lady remained vacant.
Aseefa was a teenager when Zardari began his term and is now 31 years old.
