RAWALPINDI, June 9: The Academic Council of Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi has approved a series of new academic initiatives, including industry-focused degree programmes and the integration of artificial intelligence education across all faculties, as part of efforts to improve graduate employability and entrepreneurship.
The decisions were made during the 81st meeting of the Academic Council, chaired by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman. The meeting was attended by senior university officials, including Registrar Muhammad Aqeel Sultan, deans, directors, professors and associate professors.
The council approved the minutes of its previous meeting and reviewed a range of academic matters before endorsing several new degree programmes designed to align with evolving industry requirements.
Focus on skills and entrepreneurship
According to the university, the newly approved programmes emphasize skill-based learning and practical competencies aimed at preparing students for changing workforce demands. The initiative seeks to equip graduates with both employment opportunities and entrepreneurial skills, encouraging them to create businesses and jobs in addition to pursuing traditional careers.
University officials said the programmes were developed in response to emerging market trends and the growing need for workforce-ready graduates.
AI education to become part of all degree programmes
A key decision of the meeting was the approval for all faculties to develop and incorporate artificial intelligence-related course content into their academic programmes.
The Academic Council emphasized that AI education should become an essential component of university curricula to help students adapt to rapid technological changes and future workplace requirements.
Strengthening research and innovation
Addressing council members, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman urged deans and directors to facilitate students within academic regulations while strengthening skill-based education and research activities.
He stressed the importance of enhancing students’ practical skills, innovation capacity and research capabilities to help them meet national and international challenges.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to further improve academic standards, modernize curricula and promote excellence in teaching, research and innovation across the university.
