Oscar-winning Indian musician AR Rahman’s former wife, Saira Banu, has broken her silence regarding their separation.
According to Indian media, Saira Banu introduced herself as Saira Rahman in an audio statement, saying, “I am currently in Mumbai. For the past few months, I have not been in good health, so I decided to take a ‘break’ from AR.”
She urged YouTubers and Tamil media to refrain from saying anything false about AR Rahman, describing him as a priceless and exceptional individual.
Saira Banu explained that due to her health issues, she had to leave Chennai and move to Mumbai for treatment. She said this was not feasible in Chennai due to AR Rahman’s busy schedule. “I did not want to trouble anyone, not my children and not him,” she added.
Praising AR Rahman further, she remarked, “He is a wonderful person. I trust and love him more than my life, and he loves me equally. I request everyone to stop spreading false accusations against him, leave us alone, and let us live in peace. We have not officially announced anything yet.”
Saira Banu also stated that she would return to Chennai soon but needed to complete her treatment first. However, she did not disclose any details about her illness.
It’s worth noting that a few days ago, Saira Banu announced her separation from her husband after 29 years of marriage. Her lawyer, Vandana Shah, issued a statement regarding the couple’s separation, citing complexities in their relationship as the reason.
The statement mentioned that despite their deep love for each other, they realized that the bitterness and challenges had created an irreparable distance between them. Saira requested fans to respect their privacy and emotions during this difficult time.
Later, AR Rahman shared a message on his X account, stating, “We had hoped to reach 30 years of marriage, but everything in this world comes to an end, which no one sees coming. Even God’s throne can tremble under the weight of broken hearts.”
According to Indian media, AR Rahman married Saira Banu on March 12, 1995. The couple has three children. Their marriage was arranged by Rahman’s mother, as the musician revealed in an interview.
