Peshawar – Former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Irrigation, Aqibullah Khan has reiterated that his political journey is rooted in Imran Khan’s Haqeeqi Azadi vision, not in the pursuit of ministries or personal gain. He emphasized his continued commitment to PTI’s democratic mission, civil supremacy, and judicial independence.

Reflecting on his tenure, Aqibullah Khan disclosed that the Irrigation Department faced liabilities of Rs. 13 billion when he assumed office, while only Rs. 9 billion was allocated for the fiscal year 2025–26. Of that, Rs. 5 billion was diverted to the Chashma Right Bank Canal Project in the Chief Minister’s southern region. He noted that most funds supported ongoing schemes, with only one new initiative launched—later scrutinized for irregularities in the tendering process.

Despite financial constraints, the department completed eight small dams across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Latambar Dam in Karak, Jaroba Dam in Nowshera, Kundal Dam in Swabi, Ichar Dam in Mansehra, Pezu Dam in Lakki Marwat, Makh Banda Dam in Karak, Khattak Banda Dam in Kohat, and Zamer Gul Dam also in Kohat. In addition, 45 ongoing schemes were finalized, exceeding the annual target of 44 for 2024–25.

Aqibullah Khan also highlighted the successful completion of the Raising of Baran Dam Project, which will irrigate 120,000 acres of land. Furthermore, 42 solar tube wells were installed to modernize irrigation and bring 750 acres under cultivation—advancing sustainable agriculture and water efficiency.

He noted that the department launched the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Livelihood Project to promote rural development and food security. Major initiatives such as Tank Zam, Haider Zam, and Daraband Zam are underway in the 2025–26 fiscal year. Collectively, these projects aim to irrigate over 120,619 acres and play a critical role in flood mitigation and climate resilience.

Reaffirming his loyalty, Aqibullah Khan stated that he and his family have stood with Imran Khan for over three decades. He pledged to continue his struggle as a common worker for the Haqeeqi Azadi vision, supporting PTI’s efforts to uphold democratic values and institutional reform.
