Despite stringent security measures in museums worldwide, thieves often find ways to steal invaluable artifacts. A recent incident in the Netherlands saw the theft of a 2,500-year-old gold helmet along with four other ancient artifacts from the Drents Museum in Assen.
The heist took place after midnight, with security footage showing suspects breaking the outer doors and releasing smoke and sparks to bypass security. Among the stolen items were three gold bracelets from 50 BCE and a gold helmet dating back to 500 BCE.
This gold helmet was not owned by the museum but had been borrowed from the National History Museum of Romania for an exhibition. The artifact was originally discovered nearly a century ago in a Romanian village.
Following the theft, the museum has been temporarily closed. Authorities, in collaboration with Interpol, are conducting an international search for the culprits.
