Shared history and security outlook

Speaking at the event, IRS President Ambassador Jauhar Saleem highlighted the deep historical, cultural, and civilizational links among Türkiye, Azerbaijan, and Pakistan. He noted that the three countries have faced similar regional and security challenges, which, he said, had fostered mutual understanding and closer cooperation in addressing both traditional and non-traditional security threats.

Ambassador Saleem emphasized that shared experiences have contributed to a strong foundation for collaborative responses to evolving regional dynamics.

Emphasis on geopolitical and economic cooperation

Türkiye’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Irfan Neziroglu, stressed the importance of geostrategic and geopolitical cooperation among the three countries, particularly in the areas of trade, economic connectivity, and sustainable development. He described Türkiye, Azerbaijan, and Pakistan as “three states but one nation,” highlighting the depth of their ties.

He referred to the trilateral summits held in Astana in 2024 and in Lachin in November 2025 as key milestones that helped institutionalize and advance structured cooperation among the three countries.

Call for practical outcomes

Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Khazar Farhadov, noted that trilateral cooperation among Türkiye, Azerbaijan, and Pakistan dates back to 2017, even though it was not formally recognized at the time. He emphasized the need to take practical steps to achieve tangible outcomes and further consolidate cooperation and engagement among the three states.

Role of regional platforms and people-to-people ties

Participants at the seminar underlined the importance of regionalism and regional platforms in promoting shared interests, trust, and solidarity. They also stressed that stronger institutional collaboration could contribute to long-term regional resilience.

The discussion highlighted the role of people-to-people contacts, academic exchanges, and sustained policy dialogue in deepening trilateral relations. Speakers reaffirmed the collective commitment of Türkiye, Azerbaijan, and Pakistan to regional stability, peace, and security amid increasing global uncertainty and geopolitical competition.

The IRS was acknowledged during the event as a leading research institution providing policy-relevant analysis and platforms for dialogue. Participants noted that the newly launched programme aims to enhance intellectual cooperation, identify new avenues for collaboration, and support future policymakers and researchers through informed analysis and shared learning.
