Letter expressing concern over federal committee created to oversee funds for consolidated districts
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has written a letter to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressing concern over the federal committee formed to oversee funds for the merged districts. According to Express News, Gandapur’s letter highlights his objections to the formation of the committee, specifically its handling of funds allocated for the merged districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after the 25th amendment to the constitution. In the letter, Gandapur reminded Prime Minister Sharif that under the 25th Amendment, the merged districts were incorporated into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which gives the provincial government full administrative powers over the areas. He argued that the creation of a federal committee was not only unconstitutional but also undermined the authority of the province. “This notification of the committee is a violation of the constitution and a violation of the authority of the provincial government. The federal government should withdraw this notification,” Gandapur said in the letter. Gandapur further added that if the issue remains unresolved, the provincial government can seek legal redress by approaching the higher judiciary to exercise its constitutional rights.
