SKARDU/GILGIT: Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan on Monday inspected the flood-damaged section of the Skardu-Gilgit Road and directed authorities to accelerate restoration work to ease difficulties faced by commuters and local residents.

The minister visited the affected bridge near Sassi Haramosh Ansar Camp, where flash floods caused damage to road infrastructure and disrupted movement along the important route connecting Skardu and Gilgit.

During the inspection, Abdul Aleem Khan directed the National Highway Authority (NHA) and field teams to deploy additional heavy machinery and complete repair activities on an emergency basis.

“Immediate and effective measures must be taken to minimise public hardship. By the Grace of Almighty Allah, full restoration of the Gilgit-Skardu Road will be achieved very soon,” the minister said.

The minister reviewed ongoing rehabilitation efforts and received briefings from officials regarding the extent of damage and progress on restoration work.

NHA, FWO Teams Working on Restoration

Abdul Aleem Khan appreciated the efforts of field personnel from the National Highway Authority and Frontier Works Organisation, who are working under challenging conditions to restore connectivity in the flood-affected area.

He acknowledged the commitment of workers operating in difficult mountainous terrain and stressed the importance of completing repairs at the earliest to restore normal traffic flow.

A high-level delegation accompanied the minister during the visit, including Chairman NHA, Secretary Communications, Chief Secretary Gilgit-Baltistan and Commissioner Gilgit.

The Skardu-Gilgit Road is a key transport link for residents, tourists and trade activities in Gilgit-Baltistan, where heavy monsoon rains and flash floods frequently pose challenges to road connectivity.
