Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said on Friday that Al-Qadir University is now in her hands to distribute scholarships to students. Addressing an event in Okara, CM Maryam took a dig at Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran and said, “A higher power sees everything. He becomes the first prime minister to be expelled for taking bribes.” Expressing her thoughts, CM Maryam attacked the PTI founder and compared him to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif. CM Maryam said, “My father [Nawaz Sharif] served the country for 45 years but still he was falsely accused of looting.” “Today, the one who previously labeled others as thieves has proven himself from taking bribes,” she claimed. “We’re going to teach you [students] religion instead of teaching you magic,” she said. She said, “Unrest cannot last long in a country, but the upliftment of the masses is upliftment.” “We have been labeled as thieves. Nawaz Sharif was removed from the office of prime minister on the basis of iqama. Stressing the need to embrace unity in the country, she said, “The country can no longer bear the onslaught of hatred. “We need to become civilized. Political differences should be done gently and logically,” she added. The chief minister lamented, “In many rallies, detractors spoke against me. CM Maryam said, “What about the children who were asked to spread sedition in the country?” “The children were asked to attack the police. Meanwhile, CM Maryam appealed to the masses to support her for the prosperity of the province. “It was because of my parents’ prayers that I became the Chief Minister. “No matter what the problems are, we will steer the country towards development,” she said. On the other hand, CM Maryam also distributed check to deserving students under ‘Honohaar Scholarship Scheme’. She praised Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar saying, “Rana Sikandar has made his place in the hearts of Punjabi students.” “I think of you [students] more than my own children,” stated CM Maryam. She continued, “I haven’t spent a single January day in my office.” CM Punjab also promised to set up a medical college in Okara soon. She said, “There is not a single student who does not get a scholarship based on merit.” Separately, Punjab Speaker Malik Ahmad Khan said on Friday that the £190 million corruption scandal was an open and shut case. Reacting to the court’s verdict, Khan said, “The verdict in the case was fair because the evidence in this case was strong.” “British law enforcement authorities have stopped a suspicious transaction,” he said. Khan said: “The UK institutions have handed over the money they have received to the Pakistani government.”
