LAHORE — Kashf Foundation, in collaboration with the Government of Canada, launched its new drama series Aik Aur Pakeezah at an event held in Lahore on Thursday. The series examines issues faced by women in Pakistan’s digital environment, including cyber harassment, coerced marriage and challenges in accessing justice.
Aik Aur Pakeezah focuses on digital-era risks for women
The storyline of Aik Aur Pakeezah highlights cyber harassment, reputational harm and the legal shortcomings that shape women’s access to justice. The series features an ensemble cast including Nameer Khan, Sehar Khan, Mirza Gohar Rasheed, Amna Ilyas, Nimra Zakaria Khan, Hina Khawaja Butt, Adeel Butt, Umer Dar, Nadia Afghan, Muhammad Noor-ul-Hassan Malik, Davar Mehfooz, Ali Aftab, Kiran Waseem, Sarah Ahmed and Muhammad Ali Jan.
The event was moderated by Barrister Fatima Shaheen.
Kashf Foundation links Aik Aur Pakeezah to real digital challenges
In her remarks, Kashf Foundation Managing Director Roshaneh Zafar said that Aik Aur Pakeezah reflects the social and legal challenges women face online. She referred to data indicating high levels of online harassment in Pakistan and noted that the series aims to highlight how digital spaces can affect women’s personal and professional lives.
Canada reiterates support for gender-focused initiatives
Harriet Roos, Counsellor (Development) and Head of Cooperation at the Government of Canada, said Canada has supported women-focused programmes with Kashf Foundation for more than a decade. She noted that Aik Aur Pakeezah adds to ongoing discussions about women’s rights and safety in the country.
Panel addresses access to justice amid rising cyber-crime
The first panel, moderated by Reema Omar, included Khawar Mumtaz, Fauzia Waqar, Usama Khilji and Barrister Khadija Siddiqi. Speakers discussed online harassment, investigation gaps, prosecution challenges, and policy reforms needed to support women affected by issues similar to those portrayed in Aik Aur Pakeezah.
Aik Aur Pakeezah team outlines production approach
The second panel featured cast and production members — Sehar Khan, Nameer Khan, Amna Ilyas, Hina Bayaat, director Kashif Nissar and writer Beegul. The team discussed the creation of Aik Aur Pakeezah, the research behind sensitive themes and the process of presenting stories rooted in real-life challenges.
Trailer premiere offers first look at the series
The event included the premiere of the official trailer of Aik Aur Pakeezah, giving attendees an early look at the drama. The session concluded with an overview of how the series aims to raise public awareness about digital harm and women’s rights.
