Minister praises hospital’s role in delivering cancer care in remote region
Islamabad: Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Prof. Ahsan Iqbal visited the Atomic Energy Cancer Hospital (AECH), GINOR in Gilgit on Thursday, where he reviewed medical services, inspected key departments, and inaugurated a major diagnostic addition to the hospital.
Upon arrival, the minister was welcomed by Director GINOR, Dr. Asima Zaman Malik, and the hospital administration. He received a comprehensive briefing on diagnostic, treatment, and patient-care facilities currently available at the center.
Minister inaugurates Gilgit’s first PCR machine
During the visit, the minister formally inaugurated the first-ever PCR machine in Gilgit, a significant upgrade that will greatly enhance diagnostic capabilities and strengthen timely, accurate testing for thousands of patients in the region.
Ahsan Iqbal commended the hospital management for maintaining high standards of cancer care despite the logistical challenges of operating in a mountainous and remote area. He interacted with doctors and staff, appreciating their service to the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.

Government reaffirms commitment to improved cancer treatment
Addressing the medical team, the federal minister highlighted the need for accessible cancer treatment across underserved regions and reaffirmed the government’s support for expanding specialized healthcare facilities.
He praised the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) and GINOR for their contribution to cancer diagnosis and treatment, assuring that the government would continue to allocate resources for advanced equipment, professional training, and improved patient care.
GINOR sees rising patient load across Gilgit-Baltistan
AECH GINOR has been treating a steadily increasing number of cancer patients from across Gilgit-Baltistan, reflecting both the rising demand for specialized care and the community’s trust in the facility.
During the visit, the minister also planted a commemorative tree within the hospital premises, symbolizing the government’s commitment to healthcare development and environmental sustainability. The visit concluded with a group photograph with the staff.
“Center is fulfilling its mission with zeal,” minister notes
In the visitors’ book, Ahsan Iqbal wrote that it was heartening to see the center “fully functional and fulfilling its mission with great zeal and the highest level of professionalism,” noting that the project was initiated under Vision 2025 to bring state-of-the-art cancer treatment to the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.
