MARDAN: A ceremony was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Mardan to inaugurate the upcoming anti-polio campaign. Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Eid Nawaz Sherani administered polio drops to a child, officially launching the drive. Earlier, while chairing a District Polio Eradication Committee (DPEC) meeting, the ADC directed all relevant departments to ensure that every child under the age of five receives polio drops during the campaign, which begins on September 1.
He stressed the importance of foolproof security arrangements for the polio vaccination teams.
Officials from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Health Department briefed the meeting, revealing that 1,882 mobile and 102 fixed teams have been deployed across Mardan’s 79 union councils to vaccinate approximately 406,000 children under the age of five.
Superintendent of Police Mr. Rizwan informed the meeting that more than 2,300 security personnel will be deployed to ensure the safety of the polio teams.
ADC Sherani stressed that polio is a dangerous disease, and eradicating it requires collective efforts from all sectors of society.
