BIRMINGHAM/ISLAMABAD: Islamabad-born student Adam Zaman has been elected president of Aston University Birmingham, securing an overwhelming majority in a student body election at one of the United Kingdom’s international universities.

The Business Intelligence student, who arrived in the UK last year for higher education, won support from a diverse student population, reflecting confidence in his leadership in a multicultural academic environment.

Aston University hosts around 18,000 students from multiple countries, and Zaman’s election highlights growing participation of international students in campus leadership roles.

Adam Zaman said his focus will be on supporting students facing economic and academic challenges, particularly as global conditions continue to influence employability and future opportunities for graduates.

He said he aims to help students build skills relevant to changing economic conditions, improve access to opportunities, and encourage constructive engagement in shaping future economies.

Focus on student support and global engagement

Zaman also expressed his intention to contribute to youth engagement initiatives and promote collaboration in line with broader global development goals.

He said student leadership can play a role in strengthening academic cooperation and fostering connections between communities, including ties between Pakistan and the United Kingdom.

Part of wider Pakistani student representation

His election comes amid increasing visibility of Pakistani students and professionals in academic and public life in the UK.

Observers say such developments reflect broader participation of Pakistani-origin individuals in leadership roles across education, business and public sectors.

Zaman’s achievement has been noted as a milestone for Pakistani students pursuing higher education and leadership opportunities abroad.
