Rawalpindi: Lieutenant General (retd) Abdul Qayyum and Dr. Mirza Aamir Khurshid were honored with the National Peace Award 2026 and Best Performance Award 2026 respectively at a peace seminar held in Rawalpindi.
The event was organized by the National Peace and Justice Council to highlight the need for interfaith harmony and collective efforts to counter terrorism and sectarianism in Pakistan.
Addressing the seminar as chief guest, Lt Gen (R) Abdul Qayyum, who is also president of the Pakistan Ex-Servicemen Society, emphasized the importance of promoting national unity, justice, patience and tolerance to strengthen peace in society.
Chairman of the National Peace and Justice Council, Mian Abdul Waheed, stressed the importance of peace and highlighted Pakistan’s positive role in promoting stability at the international level.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Mirza Aamir Khurshid, Secretary International Affairs of the council, called for active participation in awareness campaigns aimed at building a society based on peace and justice.
He said a healthy society is one where justice prevails and people work together with a spirit of goodwill and cooperation.
During the ceremony, Lt Gen (R) Abdul Qayyum was presented the National Peace Award 2026, while Dr. Mirza Aamir Khurshid received the Best Performance Award 2026 in recognition of his contributions to promoting peace and justice in society.
The event was attended by several senior journalists, including Sardar Murad Ali Khan, Rohail Ikram, Malik Kifayat Hussain, Syed Ijaz Hussain Shah, Talal Saleem, Tanveer Chaudhry, Shabbir Baloch and Engineer Ryan Rashid, along with people from different walks of life.
