AB de Villiers praises Lahore Qalandars and calls franchise a source of pride

Former South African captain AB de Villiers has praised Lahore Qalandars, calling it a source of pride to have represented the franchise during his playing career.

In a special message, de Villiers congratulated team owners Sameen Rana and Atif Rana, along with the franchise management, for strengthening Lahore Qalandars’ value and competitiveness over the past decade. He said that while many T20 franchises exist around the world, only a few stand out due to consistent team strength and strong organisational values.

“I have always felt proud to represent certain franchises during my career,” de Villiers said. “Some franchises stand out because of their consistent team strength and values. Over the past ten years, Lahore Qalandars have remained among the top franchises, and I feel proud to have represented them.”

The former wicketkeeper-batter also congratulated the Lahore Qalandars management on their achievements, apologising for not being able to join them in person for celebrations. He concluded his message by wishing the franchise continued success over the next decade.

Lahore Qalandars are three-time champions of the Pakistan Super League, and are among the league’s most recognisable teams.

PSL set for major changes in 11th edition

The 11th edition of the Pakistan Super League is scheduled to begin on March 26, with the official match schedule yet to be announced. This season will mark a significant expansion of the league, with two new franchises  Hyderabad and Sialkot Stallionz increasing the total number of teams to eight.

For the first time in PSL history, franchises will acquire players through a player auction, replacing the traditional draft system. The auction is scheduled for February 11.

The Pakistan Cricket Board has already announced player base prices and minimum bid increments. Base prices have been set at PKR 4.2 crore, PKR 2.2 crore, PKR 1.1 crore, and PKR 60 lakh, while minimum bid increments range from PKR 250,000 to PKR 1.5 million, depending on the price bracket. Franchises will be allowed to bid above the minimum increments.
