Tarbela Ghazi: In a major crackdown, Ghazi Police overturned what is being termed the largest gambling operation in the region’s history. The operation, targeting a high-stakes betting event involving quail fights, led to the arrest of 8 gamblers, while several, including the ringleader, managed to escape. The police recovered highly valuable Aseel quails, a substantial amount of cash, and expensive mobile phones from the scene.
Acting on a tip-off from a trusted informant, SHO Police Station Ghazi, Shehryar Khan, along with his team, conducted the raid in the border village of Aldo near the Punjab boundary. According to sources, the gambling event was allegedly being organized under the patronage of a local Village Council Chairman.
Reports indicate that this gambling event was the largest of its kind in Ghazi’s history, attracting hundreds of gamblers from Punjab. The police seized thousands of rupees in cash, multiple mobile phones, and the fighting quails used in the event. A case has been registered under Section 5 of the Punjab Gambling Ordinance, and investigations are underway.
Meanwhile, local politicians have reportedly become active in efforts to secure the release of the arrested individuals.
