Chakwal: City Police Talagang have detained and imprisoned a man for allegedly burning pages of the Quran nearby a graveyard.
Zahir Mehmood, a local resident was arrested on blasphemous charges, shortly after a complaint was lodge against him on Rescue 15.
The alleged incident took place on saturday at Baba Wadhu Wala Graveyard Talagang.
According to the complainant, a fire broke out at the Baba Wadhuwala graveyard, and upon investigation, it was alleged that Zahir Mahmood was responsible for setting up the fire, which also damaged pages of the Holy Quran.
Rescue 1122 was called to extinguish the fire. After the fire was put out, the complainant reported that pages of the Holy Quran had been burned.
Talagang Police have took the suspect into the custody and brought him to the police station, and registered FIR against him under section 295B.
According to police investigations, the accused is a drug addicted, he lit a fire to get high and threw the matchstick nearby dry grass. The fire suddenly spread all around and flames reached to to the pit containing Old Quranic Pages.
