PM pays tribute to Benazir Bhutto for her struggle for democracy
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif presided over the federal cabinet meeting in Islamabad on Friday and made it clear that Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and good relations with Afghanistan cannot coexist properly as the Kabul regime will have to crack down on the TTP.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s determination to fight terrorism and emphasized the country’s right to fully defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Responding to the ongoing threat posed by the outlawed Taliban of Pakistan (TTP), the Prime Minister said: “There cannot be better relations and open tolerance towards the outlawed TTP.”
He called on Afghanistan to take decisive action against the TTP, which it claimed was operating from Afghan territory.
“Afghanistan is a brotherly country and we wish good relations, but in Pakistan martyrs are innocent people. This policy cannot continue,” he added.
The Prime Minister also acknowledged the efforts to provide medical assistance and treatment to those affected by the recent violence in Parachinar. Medicines were delivered by helicopter through the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the injured individuals were taken to Islamabad for specialized care.
In a separate statement, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to Shaheed Benazir Bhutto on her 17th death anniversary. Appreciating her bravery and contribution to democracy, he said, “Martyr Benazir Bhutto was a courageous woman whose services to democracy are exemplary. He recalled the historic signing of the Charter of Democracy between Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif, highlighting its role as a beacon of hope for Pakistan’s democratic journey.
The Prime Minister concluded with a prayer for the exalted status of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, describing her legacy as a guiding light for the nation.
